There are few specific problems with diesel, it is industrial grade and will generally last well. However, fuel may be slightly more expensive.

Diesels can be difficult to start in cold temperatures without glow plugs - which are prone to failure. Long crank times are hard on batteries. Diesel also gels when cold.

In general, diesel tractors run ver well and really don't need a whole ton of maitenance to stay running. If you are buying a new tractor I wouldn't even worry.
