Your dog's stomach will be hard and the dog will continually strain when attempting to poop but will not pass anything. The dog may be lethargic and just lay around.

If you see your dog squatting for long periods of time without producing any waste, he is constipated and should be taken to the vet because he/she has a blockage.

When a dog is constipated they will have several small bowel movements without much feces in it or they may not have any at all. If your dog looks like he is trying to pass a stool and is just in pain with nothing coming out vet care is needed.

The most noticeable symptom, of course, is that your dog isn't producing any or enough waste. You should also be concerned if your dog has very small, hard stool. If the problem is quite acute, your dog may also whine or look uncomfortable when you push gently on his or her stomach.

If you notice a dog squatting for a length of time and not passing a stool, he is likely constipated, which can be dangerous if left untreated.

A constipated dog will strain and sometimes cry as it tries to poop. The dog might also look abit bloated, and if anything comes out it will be in tiny hard pellets. The dog will probably be lethargic and act like he doesnt feel well also. He should go to the vet.
