Leukemia in children is not always easy to recognize right away. The most common symptoms are the flu- like symptoms associated with many other illnesses or diseases- fatigue, nausea, and headache. A symptom that sets leukemia apart from other diseases is easy bruising or bleeding, especially for not apparent reason.

First symptoms are usually anemia, fatigue, shortness of breath, and becoming tired easily through physical activity. The child may get sick often and have difficulty fighting off the illnesses. This is followed by bruising and nosebleeds, as well as an inability to clot when bleeding. It is usually accompanied by a poor appetite and pain in the bones and joints.
