Hypo-active thyroid can cause constant feelings of fatigue and coldness. It can also cause itchy dry skin and brittle hair. Another symptom is loss of interest in former activities, and feelings of depression are also known. Gastrointestinal problems are also known symptoms of a hypo-active thyroid. In women, it can cause a fluctuation in menstrual flow.

Hypothyroidism's first sign is the slowing down of many metabolic processes as heart-rate, mood, sweating and more. It can be easily treated with synthetic thyroid hormones.

Hypothyroidism has a diverse range of symptoms, differing from sufferer to suffer. Common symptoms include fatigue, anxiety, depression, coarse hair, decreased libido, abnormal menstruation, and uncontrolled weight gain. Hypothyroidism is treated differently based on causes (it's often a symptom itself from another disorder). Most often it's treated with hormone medications.
