You should check your rabbit's cage. A constipated rabbit should have minimal or no feces. Constipation makes a rabbit neither eat nor drink and appear lethargic. By checking the abdominal area, it should feel hard and bloated. In general, you would feel that something is wrong with your rabbit.

The symptoms are varied, and range from the following : not eating, making noises as if in pain when picked up, and the lack of feces. You can generally tell by observing your rabbit. When was the last time he defecated? If more then 24 hours yes your rabbit is constipated and needs fibrous foods like alfalfa.

The first thing you'll notice if a rabbit is stopped up will be lack of pellet production. Rabbits eat lots of plant matter and normally produce abundant fecal matter in the form of small black pellets. If you keep your rabbit in a hutch with an open wire bottom, check for a lack of pellets underneath.

If there are no or half the amount of droppings in his cage. If there are then hes constipated if their smaller and dry looking. Also if your bunny is acting uncomfortable or making any strange sounds when you touch him or his belly. Look for a change in his usual movements. All point to constipation.
