Hypertension, sleeplessness, tremors, irregular heartbeat, convulsions, hallucinations, agitation, anxiety, breathing difficulties, nausea, and angina are some of the most commonly described adverse effects. Phenylephrine HCI, a decongestant agent, has less side effects then its predecessor pseudoephedrine. Side effects for Phenylephrine include hypertension and seizures as a part of drug interactions. Repeated use will create tolerance and cause rebound congestion or hyperemia. Phenylephrine should not be taken by patients with high blood pressure.
