Boniva side effects range from difficulty swallowing to bone pain. The most common side effects are diarrhea, heartburn or ulcers. There are rare cases of bone or join pain and the most severe side effects are trouble swallowing, chest pain and heartburn that will not go away. A patient may also experience flu-like symptoms when they first take Boniva.
