I believe that would be a gerund. (If you were asking for examples, it varies from sentence to sentence. Gerunds are verbs that function as nouns, and that being so, must be the subject of the sentence.) The gerund it driving; it is the subject.

All three are parts of speech with potentially concrete referents in the world. Other parts of speech such as conjunctions and prepositions do not have the same type of concrete referent--they are more relational in terms of their function in language.
