What are the pros and cons of block scheduling?

Block scheduling allows students more time with the teachers to get a more one on one learning experience. Homework and questions can be answered in class.

My son's high school switched from block scheduling back to a 7 period day. Block scheduling allows more in-depth time for instruction during the every other day periods, and students have more time to do assignments. It also simulates the type of schedules that college students experience too. However, the school says that it's more costly to have block scheduling.
