There are some pretty good violins at affordable prices, you just have to know where to look. I've heard that Yamaha makes pretty good violins. I personally have a Gliga Gama violin fitted with Dominant strings. The Gliga website has violins of all qualities at great prices.

Stradivarius dveloped the modern violin and built them. He died in 1737. There are about 700 Strads remaining in the world, most of which are kept in vaults. Josh Bell plays a Strad. There are many consumer lines of violin, including Yamaha, which is highly affordable.
