Yes. Electric violins have been around for years now. They are played the same way as a traditional violin, except they are plugged into an amplifier.

There is such a thing as an electric violin. It's played similarly as a regular violin, but you have to hook it up to an amplifier. The advantage to an electric violin is sound variety and volume control. Some settings can make the violin sound like an electric guitar. Some have 5 strings instead of four.
