What is the best way to care for a Klotz Violin, what maintenance needs to be done on it?

I was recently given a Klotz Violin that is older and I would like to make sure it maintains its value.

All violins have basically the same care when stored. They need to be oiled, polished once or twice a year even if stored. Should have a humidifier in the case so it doesn't dry out and crack. Not kept in a place of drastic temperature changes (the attic is a big no no). And, loosen the strings and bow some.

Keep the violin in its case when not being played. Keep bridge perpendicular to the top. If the sound post falls, loosen the strings. Wipe the rosin from the instrument with dry cloth when putting it away. Use violin cleaners sparingly (and no other type of cleaner). Do not try to touch up or refinish the instrument.

I would take your violin to an appraiser and/or a well respected violin maker shop and ask them about cases and refurbishing to ensure that you're keeping your violin in great shape. Make sure that the bow is not taunt in the case and also that if there are any broken strings to have them replaced by a professional.

The best way to care for the violin is to ensure that no water touches it. Also, when not played, it should remain in its case. Don't drop it, either.
