"Primate Law" are laws that relate to the private possession of exotic animals. In New York State, it is unlawful for a private citizen to possess a non-human primate. A person who possesses a non-human primate has 60 days (as of Jan 1, 2005) to obtain a permit with the Dept. of Environmental Conservation.

Any governmental body can regulate primate ownership, not a single statewide law it appears. Double check your town regarding licenses and permits, which primates are governed by what rules and what is required for ownership in terms of your own status eg whether you have to be licensed in some special way.

A permit is required to possess a primate in the state of New York. Initial application process can be initiated through the USDA. There is an annual fee along with other specific terms that must be met and maintained if the application is approved. In addition, there are requirements for owning certain pets so please check with your local laws.

According to New York state law can not be on their endangered species list. Pet must be captive bred and you must maintain a list of all the ancestors which must be born in captivity since October 1975. Additional laws apply to New York City which includes a total ban.

Against whom and what the law should prevail? In the first place - over the state apparatus with a powerful impact on personality. on the person. Equal. Law is in itself
