Some of the most common fetal anomalies are clubbed foot (about 1 in hundred), cleft lip (about 1 in a hundred), and cleft palate (often accompanies cleft lip). One of the most common genetic diseases is Down Syndrome (genetic condition, 1 in 200), though the rate of children born with the disorder is dropping due to prenatal testing and abortion.

The most common fetal anomalies apart from Congenital heart disease are vertebral, anal, renal and limb abnormalities, the so-called VACTERAL syndrome. Prenatal ultrasonography helps in early detection of fetal anomalies in infants.
