The most common confiscated items at airports nowadays are containers of lotion or liquid that are larger than regulations. Airport security have strict limitations on the size of containers that are allowed on airplanes now.

I would say that personal care/beauty items are confiscated the most. This is because often times women forget that they can only bring a very specific amount of liquid in their carry on. If they forget and bring hairspray, perfume, lotion, liquid deodorant, it will have to be thrown away.
