What are the layers of the rainforest?

The rainforest has four layers. The top layer is the emergent layer; the canopy layer is below it and is the main layer of the rainforest. As the name implies, the canopy layer forms a roof over the bottom two layers. These are the understory layer and finally, the forest floor.

The bottom is the forest floor were very little sunlight gets through. Next is the understory where there is still little sunlight. This is where most of the animals and insects live. The canopy is the next layer and umbrellas the lower 2. The tallest is the emergent layer.
