What are the laws about bereavement leave?

There is no law stating that a company has to give you bereavement leave, however, most companies offer it is the deceased is a member of your immediate family.

Companies are pretty much free to have their own policy on this leave. Most companies, though, will allow at least two days with pay.

There are no established federal bereavement laws. A company does not have to offer time off so it is considered a benefit, not a right.
