There will be a sudden onset of some symptoms. The person may have numbness, weakness, and paralysis on one side of the body in the arm, leg, and face. Other symptoms can include confusion, slurred speech, inability to understand simple commands, severe headache, drooling, unable to walk, and the inability to speak.

There are different degrees of stroke and the symptoms vary. A stroke victim might collapse and be unconscious, while another might appear simply dazed and confused for a bit. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or bursts, depriving the brain of oxygen. The extent of the deprivation determines the severity of the stroke.
