Strings are gauged into sets, size is measured in thousandths of an inch (thou. Most accoustic guitars are best suited to light gauge strings, an 11 thou high E down to a 50 thou low E. Check out some guitar string sites - Google eg, "Martin strings". Some guitars respond better with medium gauge strings. Heavies are special purpose.
