Late periods, just like early periods may be due to stress, excessive exercise, hormonal imbalances, obesity, late age and myriad other causes. These causes have differing frequencies of occurrences depending on the age and other circumstances involving the patient. Of all the causes however, pregnancy is by far the most common.

All women have different length cycles, it's possible to have a period if you aren't ovulating, called an anovulatory cycle that can be very late.

When you are becoming irregular, it could mean that there is a hormonal imbalance that you are experiencing. Birth control pills can bring you back to regularity and replace the hormones that you might be missing. Speak to your doctor and find out if that is the case this time.

Your cylce is effected by all your everyday life situations. If you are high stress, or very athletic, these can cause you cycle to be off. Hope this helps.

Not every woman has regular cycles. This can be for many reasons. Your body could naturally adapt to changes in exercise, atmosphere, etc. Also, if you do not ovulate regularly, then your cycles may not be consistent.
