What are some reasons for a late period other than pregnancy?

I have ruled out being pregnant and would like to know what else could be causing my period to be late.

It is fairly common for women to miss a period for absolutely no reason at all. Losing more than a few pounds can also contribute to a missed cycle. Other medical causes for missed periods can include hormonal imbalances, missed diagnosed pregnancy, Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease, Endometriosis, birth control, other medications and menopause.

Your period can be late for many different reasons other than pregnancy. One would be delayed ovulation, another would be lack of ovulation entirely. It's a good idea to check with a doctor to be sure and to rule anything out as they can run hormonal tests to see what is going on.

You could be having hormonal fluctuations, or your body could be responding to stress or weight loss. Additionally, thyroid issues can cause missed periods.

Have you received any vaccinations lately? How about major changes at work or at home? Did you start a new diet? Stress, both physical and emotional, can be a major cause of cycle irregularity and fertility issues in general. Finding and reducing these should help get your periods back on track.

Losing weight can cause skipped periods as well stress and being sick for a period of time. Also medications can cause abnormal cycles too.

Sometimes, it happens that even if you are not pregnant, the periods are late than the normal of once in four weeks. It could take upto seven weeks even. The reasons probably could be that you may have touched the age of forty or that your blood counts are low.
