A lot of good freelance markets can be found online. Many of these sites allow people to work online writing both short and long articles. You are able to bid on projects of your choosing and even set your own time tables. There are often dozens of jobs at a time on websites like these.

Posting on Craigslist is a good way to get work however most of the work that you will get will be technical writing.

Jobs for freelance writers/editors/copywriters/proofreaders are plentiful on Craig's List. The ads allow you to contact the lister and get detailed info. Do a quick search of the company name.

Try legitimate books and periodicals, such as Poets and Writers, a magazine for, well, poets and writers. Or Poet's Market or Writer's Market, books put out for writers and publishers.
