The best way is to wash whatever you can, especially curtains with regualr laundry soap. Look for specific cleaning products that neutralize cigarette odors, especially ones containing enzymes. You can also add baking soda and water to a mister and spray this around, or use a mister with an essential oil such as peppermint oil diluted with water.

Fabreeze will do the trick usuaully. I bought a wedding dress that smelled like cigarette smoke on E-bay, and I just aired it out and sprayed it with fabreeze, and by my wedding day it was perfectly fine. I'm sure if you can use anything with bleach bleach is so strongly scented it would overpower the smell.

For home cleaning, I recommend using pinesol. A pinesol/water mixture will take the smell out of the walls, and dabbing the carpet with the same and then steam cleaning will take it out of the carpets as well. For clothing, I have found that nothing works better than Tide.

If the surfaces are covered with the oily residue from smoking, clean them with Lestoil in water according to manufacturers instructions. Sprinkle baking soda onto carpets and let it sit for as long as you can, then vacuum it up thoroughly. A bucket of charcoal briquettes (without chemical starters) will continue to absorb odors for six months.

Air rooms daily, air fresheners help to counteract the smoke smell. Polish will give the room a nice aroma and keep furniture looking good. A disinfectant is a good cleaner because of its strong smell as well as being anti-bacterial, using this two to three times a week wiping window ledges will help.
