When choosing a purebred, you know exactly what you will get (appearance/allergenic level/exercise level, etc). That advantage is if you only want a puppy. On the other hand, mix breeds are generally more healthy (less genetic disorders), lower initial cost (when getting from shelter), and they comes in unique looks.

When you purchase a pure breed you are given papers that show the the history of the dog's ancestors. With a mutt, you are just taking a chance.

A pure bred dog has the advantage of predictability, physical and mental. Temperament, adult size, looks, typical ailments, length of life are all known well ahead of time with such a puppy.

In a pure breed, you know the dogs family, illness history and looks. However a mutt is smarter and by saving a lost dog you are doing a good deed.
