A low red blood cell count is a sign of anemia. The main symptoms of anemia are fatigue and generalized weakness. It can also cause a person to look pale and have headaches. Some people with iron deficiency anemia experience pica which means they eat strange things like ice. Anemia can also cause changes in your nails.
