You are going to need to get a good ladder for this, because vaulted ceilings typically have angled shapes that can be hard to get to with regular ladders. Those new ladders that allow for all kinds of different orientations can be very helpful for this type of task.

You need a tall ladder to reach the ceiling & it's all angles, a good roller & roller pole, some drop cloths to put down as paint will drip down from the roller, a tape to tape of the area you don't want to be painted, use safety goggles & wear a cap to avoid paint on your hair.

Make sure you put down drop cloths as paint will drip from rollers. Also using a roller with a long extension will make the job go faster.

Scaffolding. Try borrowing it from a contractor buddy or a ladder and scaffolding sop instead of buying it. be very careful if you try to rig up your own scaffolding it can only end badly.

Create a plan of attack. Obtain and use drop cloths. Buy appropriate tape, and tape off areas you don't want painted. Avoid paint in your hair; wear an old cap.

If you are going to do the bulk of the vaulted ceilings with a roller, make sure you get a really good roller pole. Flimsy ones are going to be terribly frustrating. It has to be very sturdy so you can apply the paint to the surface easily.

For a vaulted room you could consider using a spray painter if everything is covered properly, or use tall ladders and use safety goggles. It is best if you have a spotter to steady the ladder and take turns with you if it is a high ceiling, as you will tire easily.

I completely agree... painting ceilings can be tiring, not only because you have to look up all the time, but because you have to apply pressure to the rollers above you. I like your idea of taking turns with someone to ease the burden.  add a comment
