Masquerade balls are defined by the mask worn to conceal the person's face. You might want to do some research on venetian style masks.

I've always been partial to Peter Pan for girls (even though Peter was a Boy), and Moses with the tablets for a guy.

I think a traditional domino would be fun, simply because it is not likely someone else would wear that. Other than that, a bird (peacock, etc. ) could be fun.

Something Marie Antoinette would have worn! Don't over do it though, specially with the hair... Or try to find a venetian mask! They're gorgeous
