What are some tips for guitar painting?

Doing a professional job is quite complicated. You'd have to disassemble the guitar and with some models this could be harder than you would like. Some models the volume, tone and pick ups will require soldering for reassembly. Once it is stripped you probably would want to use a primer of the base color, paint it as desired and laquer.

Sand it thoroughly and use good quality paint. If you're using spray paint, definitely use a clear coat on top (will wear without messing up the color underneath).

Make sure to mask off what you don't want painted, because it will be hard on the wood in removing unwanted paint overspray. Avoid sanding paint off by proper masking.
