The Dept of Defense has a website that lists terminology, including a long list of acronyms, much of which is shared across the services, at dtic. mil - You can also look up Army Regulation 310–25, which is available online as a. pdf, that lists only Army terms. glossarist. com is an excellent site as well for US Army terms.

Bird Colonel (full Colonel), Black Diamond (first sergeant), Platoon Daddy (lead NCO in a platoon) and First Shirt (First Sergeant) are terms specific to the US army.
