Question by  Kristi (13)

How long do you spend at army boot camp before you can be in the army?

Or are you in the army already?

Answer by  Darry (3853)

Basic training generally lasts 9 weeks but you may spend a short period of time at the induction center learning military basics such as marching and rank recognition. You are part of the army in boot camp but usually will not receive actual rank insignias until you have completed basic training.

You are in the Army once you raise your right hand in the MEPS station and sign your contract. You still have to do boot camp, and AIT before you are considered permanent party and have more of the rights/responsibilities you are probably thinking of.
