Generally Tiny dogs and children do not mix well. These dogs are very fragile and easily hurt. Children generally do much better with a medium size dog like a beagle.

The Havanese are small dogs with some very desirable features for families with children. They are gentle, responsive, affectionate, and become very attached to their human families. They are excellent with children because they are cheerful and very sociable. Pugs are also quite lovable and well behaved around children and strangers. They are very intelligent, energetic, clean and affectionate.

A lad is alwasy a good dog for kids. They are playful and have lots of energy. They are also tough and can take what a child can give. They are loyal and loving. You should avoid small dogs as they dont do well with kids. Large dogs are always your best bet.

Beagles make great kid dogs they have the energy to keep up with the kids and they love to play and spend time with the family.

Small dogs for children could possibly be a Chihuaha, Dachsund, Poodle, Puggle, Beagle.. etc. Then again you could get a puppy and the puppy and children can grow up together!

There are many breeds of small or medium sized dogs that are great with kids, my personal favorite are terriers. You can get a mix with just about anything, they are smart, kind, and protective. Amazing little dogs, they tend to be on the small side of medium.
