What are some sitting etiquette rules?

It is still proper to sit with your legs crossed? When should you cross at the ankles?

It is proper for a woman to sit with her legs crossed if she is wearing a skirt or dress to ensure her undergarments are not seen. This is not required if she is wearing shorts or pants. When sitting with your legs cross, at the ankles is the best way of ensuring modesty.

For a woman it is never proper for the legs to be crossed at the knee. ALWAYS at the ankles and this includes any time one is in a chair. Besides crossing at the knee is thought to later cause spider-veins, and nobody wants those!
