What are some reasons that a Chevrolet speedometer would suddenly stop working?

The line from the speedometer to the sensor at the wheel could be disconnected, loose, or damaged. If the mileage still moves the speedometer may just be stuck.

Check to see if the cable is broken they work on a cable system and if the cable breaks you will no longer have a speedometer. That is really the only thing that ccan go wrong with it. If it is digital then you need to start checking light bulbs and fuses.

See if your cable is broken, in this case then your speedometer went out completely. Make sure the cable line sensor isn't disconnected, damaged or loose. If speedometer still moves slowly a little bit then there are signs that it still works and it just get stuck at times. The digital ones you'll have to check fuses and light bulbs.
