One example of a cause of low platelets is HIT or Heparin Induced Thromosis. It's a reaction some people have when they receive the blood thinner heparin and their body has almost an allergic reaction to it resulting in a decrease in platelets.

I had a dangerously low platelet count and was diagnosed with ITP, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura. I had to take a prescription to get my platelets to come back up. Interestingly, for me, depending upon the region of the country I live in triggers them to drop or stay normal.

A low blood platelet count is the direct result of having no iron or b12 cells in your body or having a low count of them. You can get rid of this problem, by eating foods that are rich in iron and also folic acid. Some good examples are bread, grains and spinach.
