You can't go wrong with any of Canon's compact point and shoot cameras. They are reliable cameras, with great image quality. Also, they allow you to grow into the features as you get comfortable. My advice is to get one with the built-in rechargeable battery.

Sony h5o, are better and easy to use and give better results and with that if you're a new user u can buy canon IXUS 300 HS easy to use!

For something small enough to pocket with quality, look for a Nikon(PowerShot). For something bigger, go with Canon, the G-series(G9-G12). Stay clear of Sony, or any camera that does not accept a typical SD SanDisk memory card, as it's the most commonly found memory card, and Sony only takes MemoryStik.

Some better Digital cameras would be a sony or canon camera. Nikon also make good camera to use. they are all sold pretty cheap so there are many choices
