A police officer cannot arrest a civilian without an arrest warrant. They cannot search a civilian's property without a valid search warrant from a judge. Also we can launch a complaint against corrupt or malpracticing police officers. Police officers cannot assault civilians unless it is an act of self defense.

The police HAVE to read you a Miranda list of your rights when they arrest you. These include the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney. The police have to have a search warrant if they search your vehicle or property ( unless they have reasonable suspicion )

We have laws that protect us like "no police brutality" to keep us from being abused and also the right to take a police case to a government courtoom.
