Golden retrievers are susceptible to the same diseases as all dog breeds. They can also suffer from breed specific illness, namely hip dysplasia and genetic illness. If your dog is purebred, you may submit the pedigree to a genetics association, and it will be checked to be sure your dog is genetically sound.

Golden retrievers can get disorders such as cancer, epilepsy, heart disease, hip or elbow dysplasia, swallowing disorders, pigmentary uveitis, eye disorders, allergies, hot spots, skin problems, and flea/tick borne illnesses. No dog is perfect and propensity for these disorders should not deter you from enjoying many quality years with your pet.

Purebred Golden Retrievers have certain genetic conditions they are more prone to. Some of it depends on the breeding, so you should educate yourself on the pedigree of your dog.
