What are some Craigslist safety tips?

Answer by  mem4dr (1378)

Meet in a public place. Ask for cash only. Avoid ads that sound nothing like American English - these are often scams. Trust your gut instinct. Craigslist has some great tips for how to avoid a scam - read those tips carefully and follow them!

The first tip to staying safe on Craigslist is to always meet in a public place whether it is for a date or sale of goods and services.

Meet anyone from Craigslist in a public place, do not meet at your home. Have a friend with you or nearby. Do not give out credit card information in e-mails.

Never give out personal information and monitor what areas you are clicking. There are some areas of Craigslist that are like dark alleys-best avoided.

When buying, always try to go to a neutral location and to test the object to make sure that it works. When selling also try neutral places and only accept cash.

Expect to get spammed by publishing your e-mail or telephone-number, so best to use separate ones from the ones which you normally use. It is best if you do a little investigating of anyone who contacts you, search for their e-mail, name, address, or telephone-number, see what comes up. Meet in public places, or do transactions away from your home.
