Some cool nautical star tattoos are solid color stars. Maybe a grouping of stars. They are tattoos with some controversy and history as to where they have come from. Some people have the moon with a collection of shooting stars or bright Christmas like stars that you would see atop a Christmas tree.

My favorite nautical star tattoo is the star that appears on old sailors maps that acts as a directional compass.

you could chose to have a compass with with stars pointing towards one or all directions or even a compass with a star being the main shape.

I've encountered tatoos which have both the themes of stars and nautical patterns. There was a translucent frame of a star surrounded by a wreath of seaweed and bubbles filled in the empty space; very cool stuff.
