General Motors vehicles, such as your make and model, are prone to electrical problems. But even more of a concern you should have is the type of coolant that GM used in most vehicles around that time. It's called Dexcool, and it corrodes the seals throughout your cooling system. I would avoid that particular model like the plague!

Some of the common probles with that car are the spark plugs and coils. Also you may have a problem with them mis-firing. Also I know I seemed to be giving mine an allignment a lot more frequent then any other car I had owned. I bought a lifetime allignment so I would not have to keep paying.

That series Grand Am was given a "poor" frontal crash rating, so it isn't extraordinarily safe. It's also 10 years old, so GM will be ending parts support soon. Also, compared to the Chevrolets their based on, Pontiacs of that era have more vinyl interior trim which tends to wear out. I've seen a lot of Pontiacs with cracked dashboards

Since this type of car is now about 12 years old, there are boud to be some problems. The more common ones include problems with the electrical system, the cooling system, the engine, and the windows or windshield. The air conditioner and heater, wheels, interior accessories, and the fuel delivery are another source of complaints.Less common are brake problems.

the main problem is the rotor size is inadequate for the vehicle weight. ans the air conditioner fan won't work unless turned upto three. and the main problem is drivers side door control does not power lock all the doors because the passenger door mechanism does not work.

This car is safe! A friend of mine owned one and had a serious accident. Her brakes gave out during the rush hour. Later found out that this model had reports of defective brakes!
