The Freestar is known to have a number of issues and has been in many recalls. The main problem is with the engine's timing components including the chain breaking at less that 20,000 miles.

Large transmission and brake problems. The liftage can fall freely with no prior warning. Anyone standind beneath the liftage may be injured.

The Freestar is not a bad auto. But they tend to run hot a lot of the time. Also the ac unit in the Freestar dose not last long.
