The normal heart rate or pulse is 60-100 at rest. Anything that falls below 60 is called by doctors bradycardias. A low pulse rate is not uncommon. Many people live fine with a low pulse rate, however, if you are not an athlete it is a good idea to see a doctor especially if other symptoms develop.
THis is not necessarily a bad thing, your heart probably is just efficiant, athletes generally have a low pulse rate, in the 60s sometimes even the 50's. If you are worried it doesnt hurt to seek medical advice.
Bradycardia can be caused by many diffrent reasons usally involving the heart. For some though a lower rate is normal. It is an emergency if you have dizziness or fainting.
If it is below 60, then it could be a sign of a heart condition ,and in that case you need to see your Dr. as soon as possiable or if you are an in- active person, start excercising and see if it helps to increase your pulse rate.
