Is there a connection between low blood pressure and a high pulse rate?

It doesn't seem like they'd go together.

If your blood pressure is low because your blood volume is low, the pulse rate increases to compensate. If your blood pressure is regularly low, your pulse rate shouldn't increase.

The body generally increases pulse in the setting of low BP to maintain adequate perfusion. But if low BP is caused by heart pump problems, then the pulse won't increase.
