I am a professional geologist. My job as a geologist is to do geosteering and mudlogging for oil companies. This profession is called well site geology. In addition to working in mining as a grade control geologist, in the environmental engineering field, or even as a GIS specialist. Depending on background geophysics also pays very well.

Hands down, the best career for geologists is in the petrochemical industry. They map out where the oil and oil bearing tar can be found. Mining and mining management also use geologists. Also geologists can prepare reports on building sites for stability and seismic risk. Teaching and government positions are also available to geologists.
