Clean the fish bowl with warm water and paper towels, no soap. Use a strainer to put rocks, plants and houses in and run under warm water.

You should first set the fish aside in a room temperature glass of water while you clean the tank. Then empty out the water and use a fish-safe soap to clean out the inside of the tank. Make sure all the soap is out of the tank before filling it with water. Add room temperature water, then the fish.

Use a small cup to hold some existing water with your betta. Rinse out your betta bowl throughly. Add new drinking water or treated tap water to the bowl. Let the water temperature equalize between the two environments before dumping your betta back in. You can use stress coat for the fish store to treat the water.

After you have placed your beta into a separate bowl, rinse out the fish bowl with hot water. Never use soap! Use a clean sponge to wipe sides of the bowl. Then refill the fish bowl with regular water, apply aquarium salt, when water reaches room temperature, return the fish.

Betta's are very low maintenance and prefer a tank with no filter. Using decholrinated water you should do a 15-20% water change weekly or bi-weekly. Feeding the betta only a few pellets a day, and keeping the tank out of direct sunlight to avoid algae should also help keep your tank healthy and clean.

Well in terms of cleaning and all, you will want to put some algae cleaner into the tank. Then you would use some vinegar and clean up the tank as required.

You should get a catfish or some kind of cleaning fish in your tank to eat the garbage; it will keep the water cleaner for longer
