The best way is to purchase a flute cleaning rod. Unassemble the flute at the joints so that the mouthpiece, body and foot joints are seperated. Using clean fabric-old sheet etc on the end of the rod, draw the rod thru each section of the flute until all moisture is removed. This amy require several cleaning cloths

The insides of sections of a flute should be cleaned after every use with a swab cloth. Use a rouge cloth to clean tarnish from a silver flute. With routine maintenance, wood flutes should require no special cleaning.

You'll need a long, thin rod (sold in music stores). Disassemble the flute, and run a thin cloth through the inside in order to get out all the spit and dirt. Wipe down the outside and shine.

You can buy a cleaning kit from a music store or run a piece of old 100% cotton t-stirt through the dismantled flute beginning with the mouth piece. An old wooden chop stick can help gently push the small rag though. Allow to air dry a few minutes and reassemble or place back into case.
