Squash borers dig into the base causing wilt and death. Cucumber beetles, a variety of mosaic viruses. Aphids, mites, downy mildew, powdery mildew, angular leaf spot. The fruit may have pickleworms, lack of or poor pollination. Squash bugs and various forms of fungi.

An Aphid is a small pear shaped insect that resides underneath squash leaves. Aphids suck fluids from the plant and leave behind a honeydew substance which can result in black mold. Choanephora fruit rot is a fungus that can grow on squash blossoms and fruit creating a white mold.
