This may be due to a disease called anthracnose, which cause withering and death. Other possibilities include fungal root disorders or being in an environment too dry.

Willows need plenty of water and can profit by laying hose close to tree and letting water seep slowly for several hours. Fertilizer can provide iron if there is an iron deficiency. Aphids, borers, caterpillars, scales, and gypsy moths can become problems, as can several fungi. Wilting and browning can be caused by drought.
