Black panthers roar and cougars purr. Black panthers are distinctively black while cougars are mainly brown in color. The cougar is known as a mountain lion and is part of the small cat family while the black panthers are members of the big cat family.

There's NO difference between a cougar and a panther in that they are different names for the same animal if you are asking about the large cats that are native to Florida. Meanwhile, a BLACK panther in Latin America is a type of jaguar and in Asia is a leopard.
