A black or tarry stool in your dog is an indication that your dog is sick. Your dog may have bleeding in the stomach caused by an ulcer or you dog may have eaten something that has made it sick. Because these symptoms have persisted in your dog for several days you should consult your veterinarian immediately.

If you can't afford vet care when your animal critically needs it (as in this instance) you have no business keeping a dog. It's a living thing, and you're making it suffer every moment you don't do *your job* as an owner. Medical cost is part of pet care, period.  add a comment

There could be blood in the stool and that could be why it is black. If it is blood then it should be checked since no blood should ever be in the stool.

Please for the sake of your dog see a vet immediately. Black stool is a common indicator of intestinal bleeding, although it could be something he ate.

Internal bleeding is certainly one of the more likely possibilities. Why, where or how much exactly aren't anything you can determine on your own, or by Google-ing. See your vet!

Dark or tarry stools are a result of digested, not fresh, blood. Blood that is digested comes from the stomach or intestine. I would have him checked just in case.

Almost all dogs will chew and perhaps swallow almost anything that captures their interest. This can be the cause of ulcers. While some ulcers can heal on their own, others can result in internal bleeding. Symptoms include blood in the stool(black stool) or vomit that looks like it has coffee grinds in it. See your vet right away!
